Sun Screen/Hydration

If you come to Doha then don't forget sun cream and some form of protection for your head if you are out in the sun - even in our winter.

We advise that you carry bottled water with you at all times.  It is important to take in enough fluids to keep well hydrated.  Everyone knows the risk of Sun or Heat Stroke, but forget about keeping hydrated.  Dehydration can cause serious problems if not recognized.  Even in the cooler months, the temperatures during the day are usually between 24% - 30% and can be humid.  Also, all buildings have AC which is very drying to the skin and throat.

Signs of dehydration can include:

  • Not peeing or having very dark yellow pee.
  • Very dry skin.
  • Feeling dizzy.
  • Rapid heartbeat.
  • Rapid breathing.
  • Sunken eyes.
  • Sleepiness, lack of energy, confusion or irritability.
  • Fainting.

If you are elderly, or are travelling with elderly companions, or young children,  then it is important to encourage them to take on fluids often, even if it is only a couple of sips at a time.  It is better to drink little and very often, than to only have a couple of drinks during the day.  It is worth noting for these age groups that they will not have to go to the toilet more often as they are drinking more, because the fluids will be absorbed to keep the body hydrated.
